Making a case for one of the most accomplished debut singles of the year is LA-native Otis English, whose new song ‘Young Kids, Old Love’ is a soaring, extravagant piece of alternative pop. Driven by an energetic piano/hand clap instrumental combo, English’s impassioned vocals snake around the excitable rhythm section, with his twisted, downtrodden lyrics offering another layer of intrigue. From accidentally burning down his childhood home, to watching his father’s health drastically deteriorate while living out of his car; Otis English hasn’t had everything go his way in the past (understatement) - but he’s taking this negativity and using music as his release. If this new single is anything to go by, then his forthcoming EP (set for release via Crooked Paintings later this year) should be superb. -JC
